Vintage ads

I love looking at vintage ads. They make me realize how much advertising has advanced in the last few decades. These ads are an especially creepy collection involving children.

Magazine update

Awesome Info Graphic:

Ipad Layout:

Take a look at my awesome info graphic, pulled from actual data on the stressors in those regions. See also my Ipad layout. It is not finished yet, but I'm working on getting all the columns lined up and spaced right. I think I'm going to switch to a four column grid for this. It is also a challenge to not put stuff toward the very edge of the Ipad where it is harder to touch. I'm going to include a screen of what an article looks like once you click on it.

With our upcoming MODA project I've been looking at infographics. A few of my friends have posted things on facebook. Both, coincidentally, are about beer and wine. The second one is more illustrative and the first is cleaner.

This one lists top beer/wine drinking countries which I found very interesting:

work station comic

http://www.onextrapixel.com/comics/comic-2-the-perfect-designer-workstation/

The perfect workstation? Perhaps... If only the desk had hydraulic lifts so that I could work standing at times.

Some contents pages for the magazine:

This one is more interesting, but I'm not sure about the curve in the lower right.
Perhaps the text needs to play into it more.

magazine cover sketches

I sketched some ideas last week:

and turned them into a rough draft in InDesign:

It needs a background yet. But I like the large bamboo stick vs the column of subheadings on the right. I might switch it around. It's still a work in progress.

Infographic Bill Murray Birthday

Found this infographic this morning on the life of Bill Murray. Maybe it'll help get the creative juices flowing for the next project

Running comic

Disclaimer: I am not a runner. All the other women in my family partake in this odd thing that I have never quite understood, until, perhaps, today.

This is the start of a pretty funny and deep comic. It is pretty long, but well done. I laughed, I thought, I laughed and thought some more. Then I thought I should share this.

Magazine nameplate

Here's my redesigned nameplate for the Environmental Magazine:

I wanted it to have a clean, fresh feeling. I feel like the curve alludes to the globe as well as a lower case "e". It would be easy to read on a magazine stand.

You can see their real logo here: http://www.emagazine.com/

Cut out bike helmet

I must say this bike helmet is aesthetically pleasing. I love the cut out pattern, but I hope it doesn't hurt the safety ratings.

do you zentangle?

Zentangle

no, not Yoga meets Twister, but rather an interesting form of doodle art. Here's a good link for a bunch of images.

http://pinterest.com/source/zentangle.tumblr.com/

Well why on earth didn't anyone tell me there is an actual name for those doodle's I've been creating for years? I absolutely love 2 toned art pieces. Now, some of these zentangles are a little crazy and my eyes start to twitch, but others are absolutely beautiful. Now I'm making it my mission to incorporate a zentangle into one of my graphic design pieces before I graduate.
